Currently, harassment is so rampant because it is too easy for people to ignore it when it happens around them. We aren’t talking about it enough. People who aren’t doing the harassing, nor experiencing it first hand, may also have no idea about the way it affects those of us who do get harassed on a regular basis – so they have no idea how serious the impacts can be from these comments, stares, and grabs can be. Conventions where harassment occurs have little motivation to pro-actively work against the harassment perpetrated by paying attendees because no one is pressuring them to take action. Share your story – contribute to the conversation and let’s re-write our experiences into mainstream reality so we can improve the way we interact with each other – and create conventions as safer spaces for everyone.
